Expectations on the election of a new Mayor in Blantyre

1. The city council should step up efforts in waste collection. For some areas they should not stick to their program of collecting waste twice a week. Waste should be collected as and when the waste storage dustbins in designated places are full 2. The city council should not focus on chasing people selling merchandise along the streets but rather find a long lasting solution like expansion of existing markets or erection of new markets in strategic locations. 3. We would be happy if information on expenditure under various projects such as the Local Development Fund is shared with the public; by pasting on boards at the city council and or promoting initiatives by councilors to share with citizens through their respective ward committees. 4. The city council should be strict with regards giving out business operation licenses for drinking joints. In some areas Bottle Stores are very close to people’s houses. 5. Indians should not be allowed to reside in rooms that are a floor above their shops in town. When they hang their clothes and blankets that have been washed the city does not look good. Especially in Limbe.
